Sailor Moon Transformation/Henshin Cosplay Progress

Hey guys! Here are some progress photos of this cosplay. You can also see where I'm at on the overall costume in this video:

So my last post was just me fleshing out the idea in my head of how I wanted to pull this off. I've done a lot since then...

Since I don't want the zentai suit "face" to cover my face since it is 1) stuffy, hot, and squishes my nose and lips uncomfortably, and 2) creepy as all get out, I cut out the face on the suit. I had to do a makeup test to see if pink eyeshadow all over my face could match the suit color. To my happiness, it worked fairly well. If I get the chance, I will buy spirit gum and lots of little jewels to put all over my face for added magical-ness.

Sailor Babushka? Testing out the makeup against the fabric.

Am I Sailor Moon yet?

sailor moon morphsuit ready for face to be cut out
I put the suit on and put masking tape around where my actual face is. Then I pinned it in half for symmetry and cut out the face.

Teletubbies tryouts!! May I haunt your dreams now? (And yes, those are PGSM stickers on my phone. :3)

sailor moon crystal brooch compact locket funfoam foamies
For the crystal brooch, I took a round plastic jewel and a couple of star-shaped jewels and sanded the metallic backing off them with sandpaper and a fingernail buffer block.

I used a 1/4 Foamies for the base and thin glitter Foamies for the details. I cut out a circle and inserted the now see-through jewel. The Irwin compact is in the background for comparison.

I cut out a wide strip of glitter Foamies and glued it around the edges of the brooch to create a casing for the eletronics elements of the suit and for a place to attach all the ribbons that will be surrounding my torso.

Looking pretty magical! I also glued on the plastic star jewels just for fun.

I put my fiber optic hair clips in, and voila! The light glows magically from inside.

sailor moon odango meatball hair tennis ball pinned with fabric
Here is a tennis ball with fabric pinned tightly around it to create the odango pattern.

Here is the odango pattern after I flattened it out. A sphere makes a funny shape when flattened.

sailor moon odango meatball hair stuffing
This is how much stuffing fits into ONE odango when packed tightly! Wow!! I think I even had to add a bit more...

Two little odangos, all sewn up!

The roundness is pleasing.

Here's the whole ensemble as it looks so far. The bangs are little plush "curls" glued onto the suit for now, I will sew them in for reinforcement. The see-through ribbons aren't in their final arrangement, but this shows what they look like over the costume.

Side view. The stuffed pigtail is going to be too heavy and cumbersome, so I'm going to leave it unstuffed. I also bought a rhythmic gymnastics ribbon to dance about the halls of the convention with. Hopefully no weeaboos try to steal it...that would ruin everything. XD
